Qualified Forest Program(QFP): The purpose of the Qualified Forest Program (QFP) is to encourage landowners to actively manage their privately owned forests for commercial harvest, wildlife habitat enhancement, and improvement of other non-forest resources. This plan requires a forest management plan to be written by a Qualified Forester. In exchange for managing their forests in a sustainable fashion, the landowner will receive an exemption from the local school operating millage. MDARD Qualified Forest Program
Commercial Forest Program(CF): The purpose of the Commercial Forest Program is to manage your forest for long-term timber production and get reduced taxes. Landowners can withdraw from the program at any time. The State of Michigan makes an annual payment to counties with commercial forest lands to make up for lost local tax revenue.
